i bought my first bike, a 2010 trek 4300 and had this cable lock chained to a bike rack. my bike was stolen in less than 10 minutes. this is the most unreliable lock!!! i should have bought the best lock worth $100 that comes with warranty vs. this POS!

The lock opened using the preset combination, but changing the combination did not work correctly. After changing the combination and locking the device, I was unable to open it with the new combination or the original one. It seems like a nice enough device although now it is completely useless.

Remember, locks are only to sway the honest person from temptation – the thief with bolt cutters can open this cable like slicing through butter. A perfect fit for me; easy to use, the combination can be changed very simply and it is easily stored under the bicycle seat when not in use. I saw no need for the bracket provided for storage. Nice length and strength for the price.

This combo lock is ruggedly built and the mechanism works well.
Large, easy to see numbering on the barrel and it is easy to change the combination.
I also like the quick mount / dismount frame holder accessory that is included.

So the combo part of the lock worked great. I bought this lock to secure my wheels after my wife’s wheels weere stolen from her bike. Thinking that this would be a good deterent I came home to find my cable cut within 24 and quite possibly 12 hors of being installed. I tried to return the lock but the retailer said they couldn’t because it was not defective. I disagreed with his assesment of the lock not being defective. In my opinion the lock wouldn’t stop anyone from getting you bike. They won’t even deal with the combo part. They’ll just get some bolt cutters and go to town. Luckily we both had kryptonite u-locks to secure the frames.
